Should children use the FreeStyle Libre 3 app?
When starting a new sensor, users must choose which device they would like to use and if they want to share glucose data with their caregiver or healthcare provider. The Libre 3 Sensors* can be used with the Libre 3 app.◊◊
For children with diabetes, starting the sensor with the Libre 3 app◊◊ allows them to experience more of the system’s features. The app allows users to monitor their glucose and automatically share data from their phone to their caregivers through the LibreLinkUp app§. Once connected, caregivers can remotely monitorΔ the user’s glucose levels and be notified of any glucose alarms. This allows caregivers to support their child’s glucose management, so the child doesn’t have to monitor their glucose alone. In addition, those using the Libre 3 app on their phone can automatically share glucose data with their healthcare team.
For children aged 2-12 (using Libre 3 Plus sensor) and for children aged 4-12 (using Libre 3 sensor), a caregiver at least 18 years old is responsible for supervising, managing, and assisting them in using the FreeStyle Libre 3 system and interpreting its readings.
* FreeStyle Libre 3 sensors refer to FreeStyle Libre 3 sensor and FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus sensor.
