NICE guidelines were updated in April 2022

What does this mean for you and your patients?

Adults with T1DM

NICE guidelines support the use of the FreeStyle Libre 2 system or the FreeStyle Libre 3 system in all adults aged 18 and over with T1DM.1

Offer the FreeStyle Libre 2 system or the FreeStyle Libre 3 system to adults with T1DM

Adults with T2DM on MDI

NICE guidelines also support the use of the FreeStyle Libre 2 system in selected adults with T2DM on MDI.2 The FreeStyle Libre 2 system should be offered to adults with insulin-treated T2DM that meet any one of the below criteria:

  • they have recurrent hypoglycaemia or severe hypoglycaemia
  • they have impaired hypoglycaemia awareness
  • they have a condition or disability (including a learning disability or cognitive impairment) that means they cannot self-monitor their blood glucose by capillary blood glucose monitoring but could use an isCGM device (or have it scanned for them)
  • they would otherwise be advised to self-measure at least 8 times a day

Offer the FreeStyle Libre 2 system to adults with insulin-treated T2DM who would otherwise need help from a care worker or healthcare professional to monitor their blood glucose.
