How It Works

When your patient chooses to get notifications through the FreeStyle LibreLink app, they can set up alarms so they can be alerted when their glucose spikes or dips. As long as their phone is in range, they’ll get a notification, even when they’re asleep or their phone is in Do Not Disturb mode.

They can then tap on the notification to immediately scan to check their glucose level and take any necessary actions.

How To Set Up Alarms

First, your patient will need to decide which device they want to receive their alarms on. This is an important first step as they can only receive alarms on the device they start their FreeStyle Libre 2 sensor with.

FreeStyle LibreLink

If they're intending to use the FreeStyle LibreLink app◊ to monitor their glucose levels, your patient must scan their new FreeStyle Libre 2 sensor with the app first. In this case, they will only be able to receive alarms on the FreeStyle LibreLink app.

To set up alarms on a smartphone :

  • Make sure Bluetooth is turned on before starting the FreeStyle Libre 2 sensor.

  • Open the FreeStyle LibreLink app.

  • Tap on the menu and select ‘Alarms’.

  • Tap ‘Low Glucose Alarm’.1

  • Toggle to ‘On’ to activate the alarm.

  • Set the alarm threshold.

  • Tap the back button.

  • Repeat steps 3 to 5 for the ‘High Glucose Alarm’ setting.2

  • Set the sound toggle to ‘On’ to activate ‘Do not disturb mode’.

Glucose alarms are now on.

Note: The Signal Loss Alarm is automatically turned on when any of the alarms are turned on. The Signal Loss Alarm will notify your patient if their sensor has not communicated with the app for 20 minutes. If this is the case, they will not receive Low or High Glucose Alarms.

  • Go to the Notifications section and select the
    FreeStyle LibreLink app.
