Disposing of your sensor

Used or unused Sensor packaging can go in general waste.

Once the Sensor has been placed on the arm, the used applicator (which contains a needle) and the cup can be screwed back together and can be placed in a yellow biohazard bag or sharps box.

The used Sensors are not sharps. The used sensor should be removed and wiped down with disinfectant, and then disposed of as electrical waste (the same as a battery).

Abbott offers a free take-back and recycling service for old FreeStyle Libre and FreeStyle Libre 2 readers when you purchase a new one. To arrange a return, please contact our Customer Service team by email at meduktmo@abbott.com or call 0345 607 3247, Monday to Friday: 8am - 8pm & Saturday, Sunday and Bank holidays: 9am - 5pm. We will guide you on how to return your reader for recycling in compliance with UK WEEE regulations.
